

Hazel Dillingham Peek, who loved her family, her friends and her church, peacefully passed on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Hazel was born on February 4, 1930 in western North Carolina to William (Bill) and Polly Jane Dillingham, and grew up outside of Asheville. She met and fell in love with Vaughty Eugene Peek (Gene), whom she married on May 7, 1950. Gene served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, in 1951, the couple was posted at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland when their only child Charles, was born. The family later settled in Charlotte, and Hazel began her working career at the Pneumafil Corporation, she retired as Director of Human Resources. Hazel was a longtime member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Charlotte, where she sang in the Choir, served with Gene in the Stephen Ministry and was a member of the Altar Guild. Hazel and Gene celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary before her beloved Gene's passing in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and son Charles, along with her brothers, John Cogdill, Wayne Cogdill, and Robert Dillingham. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Martha Quillin of Sanford; grandchild, Mads Peek of Greensboro; niece, Diane Coulson and husband Rick, of Cornelius, and their children, Christopher and Kylie; nephews Doug Dillingham of Charlotte and Mike Cogdill of Asheville.
Funeral Service will be held at Acsension Lutheran Church; 1225 E Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 on Friday, March 20, 2026. Visitation will start at 12:30 pm, with service starting at 1:30 pm. Committal will be at Sharon Memorial Gardens after the service.
