

Helen was called to be a Christian Missionary at the age of 28. After graduating from Wheaton College, she attended The Missionary Training Institute of New Nyack Theology School and went on to be a missionary in Dalat, Vietnam on January 26, 1951. There she did ministry work among the Montagnard people, mostly with the Kho Tribe. During her 23 years in Vietnam, she became very close with the Kho people, learning to speak their dialect fluently and helping them translate the New Testament in their native tongue, which was completed in 1967.
After many years in Vietnam, she returned to the United States after the fall of Saigon to the Communist Party. Two years later she returned to her missionary work overseas at The Theology Dalat School in Indonesia for ten year. She then returned to the United States in 1974 to help the Montagnard Refugees, who had relocated to Charlotte, NC. There she continued to help and work closely with the Montagnard people, helping them build their first church and community in the early 2000’s. She remained with them until her final days.
Survivors include her brother, Clinton Evans, Jr.; two nieces and one nephew; great nieces and nephews, great, great-nieces and nephews and great, great, great- nieces and nephews, including numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, December 4, at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
