
Henry, "H.O." Owens Burns Jr., 80, of Mount Holly, NC, passed away at home Wednesday, November 1, 2017. He was born in Kershaw County, Camden, SC, on the 18th of May, 1937. H.O. was the ninth child of Harry Owens Burns and Carrie Estelle Guinn.
H.O. was a graduate of Camden High School, class of 1957. He also attended Charlotte College. As a young man, H.O., served in the S.C. National Guard alongside several of his brothers.
He was employed at Union Carbide for 20 years until the Charlotte plant was closed. He then worked at Carolina Wire and Cable, finally he ended up retiring at Continental Tire. He worked very hard to provide for his family.
He enjoyed coaching the Oakdale Optimist Club Little League team, The Red Sox, along with Don Adams. He was a member of a Masonic Lodge and a founding member of Westgate Masonic Lodge in Charlotte, NC.
In addition to his parents, H.O. was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life of 54 years, Brenda Estes also three of his brothers and three sisters.
H.O. is survived by his three children and their spouses: Kimberly Burns Mills (Daniel A. Mills) of Mount Holly, North Carolina; Carrie "Missy" Burns Courtney (Kevin J. Courtney); and Henry "Hank" Owens Burns III (Neha Topiwala Burns) of Mint Hill, North Carolina.
H.O. is also survived by his brother Patrick Burns of Camden, SC., his sister in-laws Franklin "Frankie" Lane Burns of Camden, South Carolina, and Sandra Estes Summers of Mint Hill, North Carolina; and many, many, more nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the four gems of his life, his grandchildren, Savannah Lee Courtney, Luther "Luke" James Courtney, Henry Matthew Burns, and Mary Jane Mills.
A Visitation will be held Friday November 3rd at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home in the Paul Helton Chapel from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A celebration of H.O.'s life will be held Saturday, November 4th at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home in the Paul Helton Chapel at 2 p.m.
Donations may be made in H.O. Burns' honor to Shriner's Hospital for Children or to The American Heart Association.
