Henry Wilson Walker

Born in Albemarle, NC on March 25, 1927 to George and Cleo Walker. Henry was one of "America's Greatest Generation" and to prove that point, he left high school before his senior year to join the Navy during World War II. After the war, Henry returned to graduate from Albemarle High School and to pursue his love for football, golf, flying planes, and work.

He eventually met his wife of 61 years, Mary. They had two sons, Hank and Robert, and raised their family. Henry often said that watching his sons grow up was the greatest source of pride.

Henry became a decades long active member of Charlotte, NC VFW Post 9488. Post 9488 became a second home and a second family to Henry. Especially in the years following Mary's passing in 2015.

Henry loved his family and extended family, who are spread throughout the southern U.S. He loved his friends. He loved the birds, squirrels and bunnies who visited him at his window for treats everyday. He loved the flowers, the trees, and the veggies in his beautiful yard. He loved making things with his hands and playing golf with just about anyone. Most of all, Henry loved living, which he did well for almost 96 years.

Rest in Peace Henry. We will love, honor, and miss you always.

Henry is survived by his two sons, Hank and wife Cheryl of Charlotte, NC and Robert and wife Marlene of Boca Raton, FL; 4 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and brother William Walker of Savannah, GA.
