

Hilda Perry Hart, 97, of Charlotte, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. She was born in Charlotte, NC, February 29, 1916 the daughter of the late Minnie Withers Perry and Charles Gibson Perry of Kannapolis, NC. Hilda led a very active life. In 1959, at age 33, she returned to school and practiced as an LPN - one of her lifelong passions. Her wonderful bedside manner and love for the helpless and sick made her an accomplished addition to the medical community at Presbyterian Hospital's obstetrical unit and at Eastway Medical Clinic where she "broke in" newly graduated doctors who were fortunate to have her as their nurse for many years. She was a member of many community organizations which included folding cancer bandages for the sick, serving as an officer in the Eastern Star, volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter, Kay's, Girl Scout troop and serving on the Board of the Homeowners' Association for her community in her later years. She was always a member of a local church. In Garden City, SC where she and her husband retired, when they returned to Charlotte, she was an active member of Sharon Presbyterian Church until she was no longer able to attend but continued to support her church as an active giver. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thurman of 60 years; ,two sisters and three brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Kay Hart of St. George, Utah and Pamela Hart Gunter of Charlotte, NC, a son-in-law, Larry Gunter, a brother, George Washington Perry of Kannapolis, NC, a granddaughter, Kay Cox and her husband Jay Cox of Charlotte, NC, and two great granddaughters, Madison Lynn Cox and Avery Grace Cox. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the caregivers of White Oak Manor for their loving care during her stay with them. Their caring professionalism was wonderful. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, April 12, 2013 at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice .
