

Ingrid was born on April 27, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA to the Reverend Edward Beekman Cooper and Ingrid Jonassen Cooper. The daughter of a Presbyterian minister, the family moved to Washington, GA early in her life, and later Charlotte, where she graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1956.
She attended Mars Hill College and got her Associates Degree in Business and later transferred to East Carolina College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. There, she met her husband, Jesse. They married in 1963 and went on to have 3 children.
Ingrid taught secretarial courses, business, typing, and shorthand at North Mecklenburg High School. Later on, she taught preschool at her church, Albemarle Road Presbyterian.
Ingrid and Jesse moved to Wilson, North Carolina in 1988 where they became active members of First Presbyterian Church. Ingrid worked at the Wilson Chamber of Commerce and retired from Barton College Department of English where she was an administrative assistant.
Ingrid enjoyed playing and teaching the piano. She was called called upon to play the piano on numerous occasions for her church. She also enjoyed gardening, playing tennis and sang in the church choir most of her life.
In 2019 Ingrid and Jesse moved back to Charlotte to be closer to family. They joined Calvary Church after moving to Charlotte.
Ingrid was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse; her parents; her brother, Edward Cooper; and sister, Susan Eller.
She is survived by her daughters, Ingrid P. Hunter (Patrick) of Charlotte, Lisa P. Ryan (Charlie) of Annapolis, MD, son, Jesse W. Powell Jr. (Kylene) of Greenwood, SC; seven grandchildren, Sophia M. Hunter, Elisabeth P. Hunter, Charlotte A. Ryan, Annelise Ingrid Ryan, Emma K. Powell, Olivia A. Powell, and Jesse W. Powell III.
