

Mr. Chapman, age 89, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Brighton Gardens, Charlotte, N.C. Born May 15, 1926 in Kannapolis, N.C., he was a son of the late Chief Ira T. Chapman and Nancy Louise Wham Chapman. Mr. Chapman served in the Marine Corps during WWII as a presidential guard for President Franklin D. Roosevelt stationed at headquarters Marine Corps, Washington, D.C. Mr. Chapman retired as Director of Operations from Old Dominion Freight Lines.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2:00 pm at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service with Reverend Peter Brown of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Jewell Lambert Chapman; six children, Nancy Chapman Crayton, Ira Thomas “Tom” Chapman, David B. Chapman, Carole Chapman Wall, Charles Chapman and Richard Chapman; fourteen grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by all five of his siblings.
