

Following graduation from McKinley Technical High School in Washington, DC, Wayne enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After serving on several ships over four years, including the destroyer USS Caperton, Wayne furthered his education at the University of Maryland where he earned a degree in accounting. His career in accounting concluded with 35 years service to the U.S. Government. Most of that time was spent working for the U.S. Treasury Department of Public Debt in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Wayne was a lifelong member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Parkersburg where he served as the treasurer, a member of the Methodist Men and the Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 4.
The joy of Wayne’s life was his family. He adored his wife, the former Sarah Jane Lawson whom he married on July 3, 1955. He was also a devoted father and grandfather who attended all school and sporting activities as much as possible.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sarah Jane Wilson; three children, Kyle Steven Wilson of Las Vegas, NV, Mary Lynn Rawls of Lancaster, SC and Benjamin Wayne Wilson of Charlotte, NC; and four beloved grandchildren, Scott Lawson Rawls, Kate Logan Benton, Natalie Marie Rawls and Alexander Arthur Wilson.
A brother, Donald Arthur Wilson, preceded him in death.
A service to celebrate Wayne’s life was held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 11, 2022 in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC.
A graveside service with military honors was held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, West Virginia on Saturday, February 12th, at 2:30 pm.
