

Jake Holland Taylor, age 71, died Friday, June 13, 2014 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. The second son of Harvey Franklin Taylor and Joline Holland Taylor, he was born on July 15, 1942 in Charlotte. Jake graduated in the first graduating class of Garinger High School and joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Germany. He completed his military career retiring from the N.C. Air National Guard as Master Sergeant. Jake was a member of VFW Post 1160 in Charlotte and American Legion Post 0235 in Matthews.
In his civilian employment, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service after many years of service. At the time he became ill, he was proud to be employed as a part-time associate with Adesa Auto Auctions in Charlotte. Jake was a faithful member of Cedars of Lebanon Baptist Church and served on the building and grounds crew committee. He now stands in the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, June 16, 2014, at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park with Rev. James Greer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00PM to 9:00PM, Sunday, at the funeral home.
Jake is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sally Turner Taylor; three daughters, Jill Epple, of Matthews, Cheryl Carson and son-in-law Jesse, of Hemby Bridge, Kay Morrision, of Stallings; nine grandchildren, Randy Ayers and wife Amanda, Jose Jake (J.J.) Briceno, Landon Carson, Curtis Morrison, Kassie Morrison, Elena Briceno, Holland Carson, Shaye Morrison, Taylor Epple and four great-grandchildren, Kristen, Kaylee, Kenzie and Kimberly Ayers.
In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded death by a brother, James Franklin Taylor.
