James Withers Allen

A native of Charlotte, Jim was born on October 3, 1953. He graduated from both Myers Park High School and UNC Charlotte and worked primarily in medical sales before retiring. Later in life, he found great reward – and worked hard! – helping his wife, Debbie, in her business, Highgrove Design. His pay? Lunch out with his wife every day. They were married for 42 years.

Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His greatest source of pride was raising his three sons. His greatest joy was spending time with his seven grandchildren. If they had a ballgame or other event, he was there. A week at the beach with everyone, now that was his idea of heaven.

Jim was a man of tremendous character. Many would call him a character and mean it as praise such was his lovable demeanor. He always put others before himself, asking “How can I help?” His selflessness made him a cherished presence in the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

Jim is survived by his wife, Debbie Allen; three sons, Banks, Robert and Stuart Allen; and seven grandchildren – Tradd, John-Davis, Harrison, Reid, Walker James, Olivia James and Graham. He adored each one, and each one adored him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Martha Allen, and his two brothers, Robert and Tom. They will soon be reunited.

In accordance with Jim wishes, there will be no formal service. He asked to be cremated and have his ashes scattered in the Atlantic Ocean off the South Carolina coast. That’s where his loved ones will be waiting for him.

Jim was an animal lover and would often drop off pet food and supplies at the shelter. In that spirit, a gift in his memory can be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte (www.humanesocietyofcharlotte.org), 1348 Parker Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28208.

While Jim is no longer with us, his memory lives on in those fortunate enough to have known him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
