James Donald Barrier, 85, of Marshville, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2020 after a battle with Alzheimer’s. Donald was born January of 1935 in Mecklenburg Country to Max and Edith Barrier. Donald grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Central High School. After graduation he served in the US Army.
Donald was a lifetime member of Kilgo United Methodist Church, now known as The Vine United Methodist Church. He worked in the printing business where he met his wife Diane Barrier. Donald and Diane raised their family in Charlotte.
In his later years, he enjoyed living in the country where his wife grew up. He was an avid sports fan and he was always happy to tune into games, especially the Tar Heels. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his beloved wife Diane Williams Barrier, his brother Merlin Barrier.
He is survived by his two children, daughter Darlene and her husband Lex Thomas, and son Douglas and his wife Cyndi Barrier; five grandchildren, Christopher Barrier, Dustin Thomas, Brittany Thomas, Brandon Barrier, and Alicia Barrier; three great grandchildren, Lauren, Giana, and Ezekiel Barrier; sister Gayle Austin and nephews.
