

Matt moved to Charlotte in 1968 and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1974. In 1978 he graduated from N.C. State with a degree in horticulture. Matt worked at Providence Day School for many years as their landscape manager. In 2003, due to health reasons, he returned to school and became a Substance Abuse Counselor at Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center. In 2007 he met the love of his life, Jeanne, and in 2008 they were married. Matt was an avid outdoorsman an enjoyed camping, fishing and cycling. He also had a love of gardening and home improvement projects, and enjoyed using those skills to help others. Matt had a love and a concern for his friends, family, and clients, and excelled at motivating those around him to be the best person that they could be.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; sister, Ann (Brett) Freeze; niece and nephew, Jessica and Jeremy Johnson; and stepchildren, Rachael and Adam Thomley.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 in the Chapel of Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
