

James “Jim” Ross, beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on January 12th 2026 at the age of 82 in Charlotte, NC. Jim was born on November 23rd 1943 in Detroit, MI, and he lived a life defined by kindness and integrity.
Jim was known for his warm smile, quick wit and sense of humor, his encyclopedia-like knowledge on all topics and affinity for the finer things in life. Jim had never met a stranger, and always showed up for the ones he loved. He was deeply devoted to his family, and took great pride in being a father and grandfather. Whether through his words, his actions, or simply his presence, Jim made those around him feel supported and valued.
After service with the Army band, Jim was brought to Charlotte, NC through the Charlotte Symphony where he worked as a musician playing the oboe and english horn for thirteen seasons before changing careers and becoming a mechanical engineer at Southern Electrical Equipment Company. Jim was respected for his dedication to his craft and attention to detail. Outside of work, he enjoyed watching soccer and held season tickets to the Charlotte Eagles soccer club. He also enjoyed being active in his church. Jim sang in the church choir, was a volunteer lector and an active sponsor in the RCIA. In retirement, prior to living with vascular dementia, Jim enjoyed continuous learning and had many hobbies. Jim was a docent for the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. He was an avid reader and writer. Jim enjoyed learning Spanish, painting, writing poetry, and baking bread.
Jim is survived by his wife Gina, their two daughters Gladys and Gabrielle, his three grandchildren Lillian, Landon, and Logan as well as his two younger sisters Carolyn and Margaret who will forever carry his love and lessons with them. He was preceded in death by his son, Kendall.
A visitation will be held January 23rd at 10 am at Our Lady of Assumption Church with a memorial mass to follow at 11am.
Jim Ross will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
