

Mrs. Uttley, 73, of Charlotte died September 18, 2010. Born in Atlanta, she was the daughter of the late Christine and Jack Troy of Atlanta.
Janice earned a B.A. in sociology from the University of Georgia in 1958. She was a full-time American Red Cross employee working in military hospitals from 1959-1962. She later served as chairman of the volunteers of the Greater Carolinas Chapter. Professionally, she worked at many advertising agencies in Charlotte and later started her own proofreading firm.
Janice was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a devoted member of Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte from more than 40 years. She was one of the first three women to become a deacon and served for eight years. She also sang in the senior adult choir and taught English as a Second Language to many people.
Janice is survived by her husband, Harold, who lives in Charlotte; son Brandon and his wife Kelli, grandson Miles and granddaughter Olivia who reside in Huntersville; daughter Heather who resides in Arlington, VA; her brother Dan Troy and his wife Ginger of Marietta, Georgia; and several cousins.
A celebration of Janice's life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Providence Baptist Church, with the Reverend Dr. R. Alton Cadenhead officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment at Sharon Memorial Park will be private.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society or Providence Baptist Church.
