Hi Emily. John and I just came across the obituary for Jay and wanted to express our deepest sympathies. John has fond memories of all the years working with him at LL and tells me he was just the nicest guy. We are so very sorry to read of his passing. Your family is in our prayers. 🙏

I met Jay when he was just starting at Lithonia Lighting. We were both part of Manpower & Market Development in Corporate Marketing. I was teaching classes on lighting and basic electricity to Marketing Trainees of which Jay was at the start. I watched him grow up from a graduated college student to a leader of the company. Always a great friend. We were back yard buddies for many years. Still remember walking through the trees in my back yard to his beautifully manicured grass back yard, not a weed in sight,  on Saturdays to visit for nothing more than just laugh and joke with Jay about what happened over the week at work.  Jay continues to live in my heart and soul. Thanks for sharing parts of your life with me Jay! 

I knew Jay for quite some time and have the utmost respect for his integrity & character. You knew you could trust him when you shook his hand. He helped me more than he will ever know instilling a lot of his exceptional qualities into my every day life at work and home. A great man who will always be remembered.



I was an ATO pledge brother at Georgia Tech.  Jay was always the nice, thoughtful, quiet voice of encouragement in our class. Sad to know that he is gone, but happy to hear of the wonderful life he lived!  

As a member of Jay's former church, Shallowford Presbyterian in Atlanta, I remember all the Cassabonne family well and I am so sorry to learn of his passing.  They were all lovely; I always enjoy seeing Nancy and Kim when they visit the church and I look forward to seeing them every few years.  My deepest sympathy.

Hello Emily and family.  This is Danny Vogt. I played softball with Jay for seven years and carry many fond memories of time spent with Jay. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Jay was an awesome positive friend who was always great to be around.  I lost touch with Jay as my profession took me away from the East for many years. I reconnected with Jay as my brother Dave was dealing with illness.  They were very close friends and how I met Jay was through my brother Dave. Jay was there to help and assist with my brother’s illness. A true friend to my brother.  I will always have fond memories of my time spent with Jay. Below is a photo of our day’s playing softball with the CUTTERS. This was from one of our season ending parties my parents would have for the team. Jay always kept us laughing. Jay was one of the most unique and special people I’ve ever known.  
He was a shining example of how a person could be friendly, warm, kind, and still be a serious, accomplished professional.  I always admired how Jay could blend all those qualities so effortlessly.  Jay was an amazing father and son, husband and brother.  And he was an incredible friend to so many, including Grisela and me.  I could go on and on about all the exceptional qualities of Jay.  So many of us who got to know Jay over the years just know.  I’m certainly a far better person for the precious time that we spent together as friends.
Jay was an incredible story-teller because he was so keen in observing things and people that he intuitively knew when something was memorable – even in the moment.  When I think back, and recall some of our best and funniest memories, I don’t really remember them actually happening as much as I remember and enjoy how Jay told the stories.  
When I think of all the great times and memories, I cannot help but feel happy about Jay’s life – all that he accomplished and especially all of the people he touched in such a positive, uplifting way.  Even though he had to move on way too soon.  I want to honor Jay by being more like him.  And I greatly look forward to our next meeting, if I’m fortunate enough to ever get to where I know he is going.
This is a sad time and Jay will be dearly missed, but I hope we can celebrate Jay’s wonderful life and the beautiful legacy that is his family, and all the relationships that Jay has made over the years.  I pray that you will be comforted by the expressions and prayers of so many people who knew and loved Jay and care so much about you.  And I hope that the memories of Jay’s extraordinary life will give you happiness and peace.

Emily - sending our prayers to you and your family.  We have so many fun memories of you and Jay in the early Lithonia years.  Jay was always uplifting and encouraging to those around him.  We know this has been a very difficult journey.  Jay was a truly special person.

Jay was such a wonderful guy. A big heart that wanted the best for everyone !  Jay always had a smile and kind word for everyone. As trustworthy as anyone I've ever met.   Always up for a good time and a few laughs, Jay will be missed by all!!


Jay was a wonderful person and a great leader for Lithonia.  I knew Jay as I was also employed by Acuity Brands/Lithonia. Jay was always funny and fun to be around. I remember him fondly and wish all his family and colleagues the Lord's peace.

When Jay moved to Charlotte, he always made an effort to visit at least 2-3 times per year.  I always looked forward to his visits knowing it would be a weekend of laughter, reminiscing, and lots of good food and beverages…  Jay and Jeff’s friendship goes back to elementary school and their stories were never ending and always entertaining.  I always laughed at their conversations-- they have known each other for so long that it was as if they spoke their own language— so many inside jokes and such similar senses of humor, it was sometimes hard to follow their conversations.  On one of these weekend visits, Jay decided he would like to cook dinner for us.  While I thought it was a very sweet gesture, I was a little apprehensive to turn my kitchen over to him (or to anyone for that matter).  I even offered to cook what he brought, but he insisted that he would do all the cooking. When he arrived for the weekend, he brought two coolers—the larger cooler had all of the fixings for his dinner preparation, while the smaller cooler included two very nice bottles of wine and an appetizer.  Jay proceeded to pour me a glass of wine and prepare the appetizer while instructing me to sit in a chair and watch him work. He said that he knew I would be nervous to have him in my kitchen, so he wanted me to relax and enjoy the evening.  So I did as instructed, drank my wine, and had a wonderful evening topped off by a deliciously prepared meal by Chef Jay.  This is just one small example of the kind and thoughtful person we all knew and loved.   May you rest in peace Jay and know that we are all blessed to have had you in our lives.    

Throughout his high school years Jay was the leader and "energetic engine" for our High School Choir, youth group and softball team at Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta.  He was small for his age until about the 9th or 10th grade when he experienced his big growth spurt.  Before that growth  Jay gave 400%  effort to make up for his size.  But even after he grew so quickly he continued to give 400% to everything he did.  He was responsive, enthusiastic and eager to do everything he got involved in.  He was a gift to many, but especially to me.  I am greatly saddened to loose him.  I send my love to his entire family.  Bob Chambless

Emily So sad to here the passing of your beloved Jay. We had many wonderful years working with Jay at Lithonia Lighting. Jay was the sweetest and most kind person you could ever meet. I remember when he and Emily first met. We would joke with Emily about marrying Jay. I'm sure he will be missed!

Uncle Jay was definitely the social butterfly of the Casabonnes (although I think my mom gave him a run for his money once she joined the family). He never knew a stranger as was shown by people constantly seeing my last name growing up and immediately asking  “do you know Jay Casabonne?!?” I was always so proud to announce that he was my uncle and always loved hearing the wild stories of how they knew him. But I’ll always smile fondly thinking of him telling some of these “tales” in front of MeMe and her covering her ears scream laughing that she “didn’t want to know!!” He kept all of us laughing and I know we’ll continue to find joy in his stories (and probably learn even wilder ones) in the years to come!

What I remember most about Jay is his incredible kindness and the way his laughter would fill the office. He knew how to have fun and had a way of breaking the tension whenever we were having a rough day. Jay believed the best about people and that belief was instrumental in building a host of strong relationships in our industry. I had the pleasure of working with Jay for a couple of decades beginning with his time as a Lithonia Regional Sales VP and running through his tenure as a Principal at Bagby. As his employee, I always felt respected and valued and I’m sure my co-workers would echo this sentiment. My heart goes out to the family, especially Emily, Natalie, and John. Whenever Jay spoke of you his eyes would always light up.

Some of our most fond memories of being with Jay were each Halloween when he and other Lithonia friends would bring the little kids around for trick or treat. One year at Christmas he played a very funny prank on us which to this day is epic!
RIP my friend!

Jay was truly a great friend in business and we spent countless hours together.  I do have to share a memory: We were participating in a customer golf event and somehow found himself in front of someone hitting a golf shot(not sure how or why he was where is was)  and the ball tracked him as he ran left to right trying to avoid being hit. Unfortunately he was hit in the arm and he ran around in circles and then ran back to the cart jumped in and said with a Big Smile and laughing "Man that Hurt"  Rest in peace my Friend.

As the memories build, you can see how generous Jay was. I always admired his innate ability to engage with many types of people and show compassion and kindness. He was committed to his family, loved Emily and adored Natallie and John. Even though there is joy in the homecoming, there is sadness in the loss.  My condolences to the family and Jay's close friends.

I will always remember Jay for his warm personality and constant positive energy. Some of my fondest memories from growing up were spent with the Casabonne family, whether it was the countless hours playing soccer at the YMCA, or enjoying some pizza at Mellow Mushroom. It was always a joy to be around Jay, who kept things light and was always your biggest supporter. He was a thoughtful and caring man who showed me the value of being respectful and kind to everyone you come across. Everyone in the Robinson family is thinking of Emily, Natalie, John and anyone else who had the pleasure of knowing Jay.

I am truly saddened by Jay’s struggle and the family’s loss.  Jay was one of the genuinely nicest people I have ever known.  I knew him as a vendor, an employer, and as a friend.  We shared a lot of laughter over the years, but had lost touch the last few years, which I regret.  My heart goes out to Emily, John, and Natalie, and to his brother and sisters.

I worked for Jay for several years.  He was a wonderful mentor, colleague, and most of all, a caring dear friend.   So thoughtful, and always, a smile.  One morning, we were going to Asheville for a open house at CED, one of our customers.  When I got in his car, he had a Dr. Pepper and Chick-Fil-A minis.  He knew that that was my favorite breakfast!!  More than just a friend, a dear and kind person.  To Emily, and the kids-all of my love and prayers.

Jay’s engaging personality always made me feel special.  We went to Santa Fe farmers market a few summers ago and shared a new age lavender and whole-wheat donut. We also shared ideas about art work and floral arrangements . He was getting to know the people, there and I was looking at displays . He introduced me to his new friends . He was a natural and perfect gentleman always practicing ladies first and holding the door for me. It was always a joy being with Jay.  I’m so glad I had such a great cousin and I will miss him. See you in heaven Jay!

I'll never forget our golf outings - Jay, John, Nate and me always had such a good time walking the course together, sharing jokes and stories. 

Also, he was an amazing assistant coach for our young sons' soccer teams for a number of years. He was passionate about mentoring, helping and being with the kids. 

Jay was always the life of the party. Never a dull moment. His smile and sense of humor were infectious. He was a good friend and I will certainly miss his company and the non-stop laughs we had when we got together over golf, drinks, dinner whatever the occasion.
