

Jaya was born on September 23, 1953 to Mahadeo and Hemlata Jadhav in Phandharpur, India. In 1974, she graduated from KEM Hospital, Bombay University in Mumbai, India with a degree in Physical Therapy. She married Atul Nerurkar in 1978, and immigrated to the United States shortly thereafter. Together they raised two daughters, Neesha and Sonum, and built a community in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Jaya dedicated her life to helping others, working as a physical therapist at Carolina’s Medical Center (now Atrium Health) for over 35 years. She was an avid gardener, loved pottery and enjoyed shopping with her daughters and friends. Above all, she dazzled everyone with her amazing cooking.
Jaya devoted her life to her daughters, husband and friends and had a profound impact in the community. Synonyms with Jaya include joy, laughter, and warmth. She lived her life to the fullest, bringing her bright personality and energy to everyone that knew her. While we all feel this loss, we know that her spirit lives on within us.
Jaya was preceded in death by her parents, Mahadeo and Hemlata, as well as her sister Bharati. She is survived by her husband Atul; her brother, Sanjive and sister, Smita; her daughters Sonum and Neesha, and Neesha’s husband Nik and daughter Maya.
Memorial services will be held at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, visitation at 10am with service starting at 11am. The family requests that attendees wear florals or bright colors to commemorate Jaya’s bright spirit. Face masks are requested for the service.
