Jeanne Payne Peek

Jeanne Peek, 75, of Charlotte, died on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, wife, sister and friend to all that knew her.

She was born on September 12, 1936 in Asheville, NC to the late Harold and Mary Barnett Payne. She graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School in 1954. Her education continued at Brevard College and Elon College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. She was employed at St. Genevieve’s in the Pines, Leicester High School and finally at South Mecklenburg High School. Jeanne was active at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC.

Survivors include her daughter, Rosemary Peek of Sylva, NC; a brother Harold Jones Payne Jr. of Ashville, NC; 2 sisters Margaret Cole and her husband Joe of Arden, NC and Carolyn Gaines and her husband Alec of Columbia, SC; a brother in law Clyde Peek and his wife Anne of Charlotte; Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Paul Peek in 1988.

A Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 9401 South Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28273 with Rev. Luke H. Mabry officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 15000 Tryon Rd., Charlotte. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm at the church before the service. Pallbearers will be Carter Patterson, Donald Jugan, Joe Cole, Barry Cole, Bryan Payne and Billy Payne. Memorials may be made to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 749 Hwy 107, Sylva, NC 28779.
