Mr. Feldman, 75, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on December 6, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born April 17, 1937 in St. Louis, MO, a son of the late William and Cecilia Goldman Feldman.
Jerry was born and raised in St. Louis, where he finished his education at Washington University. He was a member of Pi Lambda Phi. He married in 1958, and moved to Kansas City, Nashville, TN, and settled in Wichita, KS. Jerry owned several retail stores, and became a real estate agent/broker for Century 21. He served on many different executive boards, including President of the Hebrew Congregation. Jerry retired to Tucson and Las Vegas, and then decided the pull of grandchildren was too tempting, so he and his wife moved to Charlotte to be with them.
He was diagnosed with a rare spinal cord tumor in June 2001. After undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, the doctors asked Jerry to get his affairs in order, as he would be gone by the end of the year. Jerry and his wife, Bobbie made plans to move to Charlotte, to spend his last months with his soon to be first-born grandchild. After contacting Duke University Medical Center, he decided to take a chance on a risky surgery. Thank you, Duke for giving us 11 extra years with Jerry to enjoy his family, especially his grandchildren. Thank you to the Levine JCC for offering programs at Oasis that Jerry could take part in.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara Gilbert Feldman; daughter, Staci Feldman Mond and husband Darren and their two children, Lauren and David; son, Andrew and his longtime girlfriend Robin Smith; sister, Susy Feldman Young and husband Johnny; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene and Ken Lyons; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry will be remembered for his wit, his smile and his positive outlook that was truly inspiring to everyone he met.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Hebrew Cemetery.
Shiva will be held at the home of Staci and Darren Mond at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, and Monday and Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Oasis Senior Enrichment Program at The Levine JCC, 5007 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226.
