

Jerry Hendrix Wells, 72, of Charlotte passed away on June 2, 2013. Jerry was born on May 30, 1941 in Canton, NC. After graduating from Pisgah High School of Canton in 1959, Jerry went on to attend Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC. At Lenoir-Rhyne, Jerry excelled as a student athlete becoming a two-time All-American basketball player and an eventual inductee into the Lenoir-Rhyne Sports Hall of Fame. On September 1, 1962, Jerry married his college sweetheart, Brenda Abernathy, and they lived together in married student housing for their senior year. Jerry graduated Cum Laude from Lenoir-Rhyne in 1963 with a degree in Accounting. He and Brenda then moved to Charlotte where Jerry took his first job as a CPA with Arthur Andersen LLP. Jerry spent years working there as an accountant before going on to open his own practice, Wells, Roller and Hammons. Years later, Jerry obtained his Real Estate License and went into the field of Commercial Real Estate Development and Management. He was President of American Asset Corporation from1986 until his semi-retirement in 1998. Following semi-retirement, Jerry started Realty Consultants, Inc and continued to work part-time as a commercial property manager for American Asset Corporation. Jerry was a hard working, honest and loving man that lived an accomplished and successful life. An outdoorsman and farmer at heart, Jerry loved to spend his free time fishing, growing vegetables in his gardens and tending to his cattle.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Harley Wells, 85, of Canton, NC. He is survived by his mother, Mabel Wells, 95, of Canton, NC; his loving wife of 50 years, Brenda Wells of Charlotte; brother, Worth Wells of Columbia, SC; son, Jeff (Cheryl) Wells of York, SC; son, John (Gloria) Wells of Apex, NC; daughter, Julie (Guy) Koenig of Lake Wylie, SC; grandson, Brandon Wells, 16, of York, SC; granddaughter, Kinsley Koenig, 3, of Lake Wylie, SC, and grandson, Kellen Koenig, 1, of Lake Wylie, SC.
The family would like to thank the staff of Levine Cancer Institute, Carolinas Palliative Care & Hospice Network, and Levine & Dickson Hospice House for providing Jerry with loving and supportive care throughout his illness.
