

Mr. Huntley, age 91, of Charlotte, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 25, 2011. A native son of Charlotte, he was born May 5, 1919 to the late Jesse Hampton Huntley, Sr. and Ruth Lawing Huntley.
Mr. Huntley graduated from Central High School in 1938 and served his country during World War II as an Army Tech Sergeant in the Philippines and Australia. He returned to Charlotte and worked for the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired at the age of 55. He was a lifelong member of Tabernacle ARP Church (now Craig Avenue Tabernacle) and served as Elder Emeritus.
Mr. Huntley loved his family, his God and the beauty of the ocean. Following retirement, he spent his time caring for his elderly father, golfing with his friends and spending time at the beach. His special joy in life came from all of his grandchildren.
The service to celebrate the life of Jesse Hampton Huntley, Jr. will be held 1:00 PM Monday, March 28, 2011 at Craig Avenue Tabernacle Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Dr. Nathan Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Grandsons and great grandson will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Miriam Hutto Huntley; two children, David Hampton Huntley and wife, Elise, and Susan Huntley Christy and husband, Fred; six grandchildren, Andy Christy, Anna Christy Norris, Kevin Huntley, Charles Huntley, Jeffrey Huntley, Lisa Richards and their spouses; six great grandchildren; step-sister, Gene Livingston; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Huntley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Huntley was preceded in death by brothers, James Huntley and William Marion Huntley; and sisters, Catherine Clemmons, Ruth Webb and Nell Melton.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to his caregivers at The Court at SouthPark and the wonderful staff of 4-D and Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital.
