Jessie retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon where he had been employed in the sheet distribution department. He was a long-time member of Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church and was very active in the work of the church in his earlier years. Most recently, he had been associated with Royal Oaks Baptist Church. During a retirement of over twenty years, Jessie enjoyed traveling and also spent many happy hours enjoying the camaraderie of friends in activities at the YMCA and senior citizens dances.
In 1944, Jessie married Jean Dixon. He is survived by their children, Karen Cook of Concord and Brandon Cook of Charlotte; and their grandchildren, Julie Allred, Anita Loman and Tiffany Cook; as well as five great grandchildren, Meredith, Jordan, Noah, Elijah and Aleah.
Following Jean’s death in 1990, Jessie married Virginia Kiser Smith and extended his love to her children and their families – Al and Roger Smith, Brenda Overcash, Linda Gibson and Phyllis Moore. Virginia preceded him in death in 1999.
Jessie’s family also includes his brother, Hoyle Cook; and his very dear friend, Phyllis Childers.
