Joel Nathan Smith

Joel Nathan Smith, 60, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 25, 2022 at his home of natural causes. Joel was born November 7, 1961, a son of Hilda Jane Cartner Smith Webb and the late David Alexander Smith, Sr.

Joel was loved and adored by his partner of 38 years, Jim Fetchero, with whom he shared a home in Charlotte and enjoyed traveling extensively though Europe.

Joel was a 1980 graduate of North Rowan High School and he attended Appalachian State University.

Since 2010 Joel has been a valued employee of Apple Computers, as a senior technical adviser and worked on many special projects for them.

One of his passions was Mini Cooper automobiles. In 2021, Joel organized the 1st Annual Mini Meetup in Spencer, NC at the North Carolina Transportation Museum.

In addition to his mother and his partner, Joel is survived by his brother, Clay Keith Stroud (Carol); sisters, Twinka Smith Tison, Amy Daneen Smith, Diane Smith, Althea Smith (Chris), Tina Smith Henley (James) and Elizabeth Smith Woodring; niece, Alexandra Jane Tison; as well as several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, David Alexander Smith, Jr.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 10:00 am until 12 noon at McEwen Funeral Home – Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
