John William Card III

He was born on Sept. 17, 1955, in Newport, R.I., to John William Card, Jr. and Mildred Shepard Card.

John married Jo-Ann Giammattei on July 25, 1980, in Maitland, FL.

He graduated with a B.S. in Sociology from Florida Southern University and received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Rollins Business College in FL.

He worked as a law enforcement officer for the Cassleberry Police Dept. in Cassleberry, FL, and other FL police departments, for twenty years.

Currently he had been employed by McEwen Funeral Service in Charlotte as a general duty staff member.

Survivors include his wife, Jo-Ann, Matthews; two daughters, Jennifer Card, Charlotte, and Jacqueline Kutney and her husband, Matthew, Hollywood, FL and two brothers, Francis Jaycocks, Key West, FL, and Robert Card, Sanford, FL.

John was a devoted husband and father.

He was a faithful member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. He was a candidate for the Permanent Diaconate in the Charlotte Diocese. He was very involved in the Prison and Hospital Ministries. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. John also was an active volunteer in the Union County school system. He was especially proud of being a descendant of William Ellery who was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

His family will receive friends on Saturday, April 28, 2012, from 9-10 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC., followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Monsignor John J. McSweeney will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium followed by a reception.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
