John M. Cybulski

Charlotte - John Maria Cybulski, age 77, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014. He was born to the late Czeslawa and Henry Cybulski on August 2, 1936 in Poland. John graduated from high school and technical college in Warsaw, and moved to Canada in 1957. He earned his B. Sc. and MBA degrees in Montreal. He married Susan, his wife of 48 years on May 7, 1966 in Montreal.

John had a successful career in the aerospace industry and was a Chairman of the Canadian Air Industry Association. In 1991 he moved to New York City, and in 1996 relocated to Charlotte, NC as a Senior Executive of the aerospace sector of Coltec Industries. He was known and respected in the aerospace industry, in Canada, Europe and USA. Once he retired from full employment, he continued to serve on several corporate boards and was non-executive Chairman of Heroux Devtek, Inc., headquartered in Montreal until recently.

He is survived by wife Susan; sister, Barbara Pawlisz; niece, Lidia Siek; and nephew, Andrew Pawlisz.

John exhibited during his career an incredible gift of being a visionary to identify opportunities, and also possessed the skill to work with his management team and other business partners to execute successfully, and to realize the potential of his vision. He worked tirelessly, and set an example of work ethics for all who worked with him. He never forgot his humble beginnings, and always treated everyone fairly with due respect. He handled his considerable personal success with great humility. His hobbies included outdoor sports, skiing, sailing and golf. He was an avid reader, and his interests were in addition to technical and business journals, history and geography. John enjoyed classical music and the opera for relaxation.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, at 2 pm on Saturday, June 7th, 2014. Interment will be private.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
