

John was born on May 14, 1938, in Yonkers, New York. He graduated from Fordham University in June of 1959 - a landmark day in his life marked by three unforgettable milestones: he earned his degree, was commissioned as an office in the United States Air Force, and became engaged to the love of his life, Arlene Von Achen.
John proudly served his country as an officer in the U. S. Air Force before embarking on a long an successful career with Pittsburgh Corning, where he retired as a Regional Sales Manager. Known for his warmth, charm, and genuine interest in others, John truly never met a stranger.
An avid tennis player, John brought enthusiasm and joy to the court for many years. Above all, he was deeply devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of pride and happiness.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Arlene Von Achen McCabe; his daughter Judy Smith and her husband Matt, and their children, grandson Bret Smith and his wife Lo, and their children, great-grandchildren Cooper (3) and Brooks(1), and granddaughter Kate Smith; his son Mike McCabe and his wife Susan, and their son, grandson Wesley McCabe, nearly 16; and his brother Edward Arthur McCabe and his wife Chris.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date and time to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of John Joseph McCabe to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
