He grew up in Baltimore and attended Loyola High School. John moved to Charlotte with his parents, brother and sister in 1949. He studied at Maryland Institute of Art and Central Piedmont Community College, and was a member of the Army Corp of Engineers. A lifelong artist, John was known locally as “the Church Artist,” due to his many paintings of quaint, rural sanctuaries. He was a founding member of the Charlotte Artists Society, as well as a member of the Silver Brush Art Society, the Fossil Club and numerous other local art groups. He was also an active member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. The most important thing to him was his love of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Agnes and four of his children: Betsy and her husband John, Loretta, Carl, and Anne and her husband John; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his brother, Reverend Monsignor Francis Raymond Moeslein.
A Prayer Service will be held at 6 pm on Friday evening, December 18, 2015 at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte, after which the family will receive friends until 8 pm.
