John G. Scheidt

Born to Richard Scheidt Sr. And Clair Scheidt (Backes) in Cole County, MO. He was a proud Eagle Scout and student at Hellas High School before graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in hospitality from Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State). He spent over 40 years in the restaurant industry before retiring.

During his career he met his beautiful wife and welcomed his two daughters (Monica and Jessica) into the world. His career brought him to Charlotte, NC in 1987 where he opened the first of a chain of restaurants. He then went on to manage other restaurants in the surrounding area where he would meet celebrities and upcoming talent as he would say. He dedicated his life to his wife and children, and in 1996 he gained his bonus daughter Laura who graced him with three amazing grandchildren who called him G-pa.

In his spare time, he enjoyed cooking, whether it was for family or complete strangers going through a tough time; food was his way of showing love and is a large part of the legacy he leaves behind. He enjoyed going to games with his youngest or listening to music on his record player while working out in his patio feeding the birds. He was the first to help someone in need and opened his doors to so many—human or animal—who needed a place to stay or a warm meal.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his older brother Richard Scheidt Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Denise and his children Monica Dunn (Michael), Laura Benton (Luke), Jessica Scheidt, his three grandchildren (Owen, Emma Jane, and Livi) and grand dogs.

Celebration of life is to be scheduled.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Atrium Hospice and Palliative Care, Forgotten, Now Family Animal Rescue of NC, or East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine.
