AVIS DE DÉCÈS
Jonathan James Boorman
29 juillet 1969 – 21 octobre 2020
Jonathan J. (Jon) Boorman, age 51 of Charlotte died Wednesday, October 21, 2020 surrounded by his wife and family.
Jon was born in Galleywood, Chelmsford, Essex UK to Anthony R. and Helen C. Boorman.
Jon worked within financial services industry for over 30 years lastly as a President and CEO of Broadsword Capital LLC, retiring upon learning of his illness. Jon began his career in the City of London at the age of 17 working for Schroders Investment Management primarily as a buy-side trader and then leaving in his mid-20’s to set-up and run a buy-side trading desk for Kemper Investment Management. Later he moved to the sales side working as a sales trader and then a proprietary trader for Lehman Brothers. He moved to Charlotte, NC with his wife and family in late 2005. Jon initially worked for a small brokerage company in Charlotte while he obtained his Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designation and then set-up on his own. Jon was an early adopter of social media utilizing Twitter (jonboorman) in order to network and share his trend following trading processes and his experiences. Transparency in communicating trading portfolio performance was important to Jon. Jon offered his time to his online community whenever asked. He was a talented writer with the ability to make complex market topics simple to those with no understanding of the markets. After being diagnosed with glioblastoma, Jon chronicled his journey on twitter being an example of how to live your best life spending time traveling with his family and friends and enjoying the time he had left to the fullest. He was able to see the positive impact he made through the countless thoughtful messages of encouragement during this time. A lovely YouTube tribute was also posted by friends from this community called ‘The Bravery of Jon Boorman’. Such a gift for him to take with him on his next adventure.
Jon loved music, singing, writing songs and then sharing his love of classic rock with his children. He took his pre-teen son to see the Rolling Stones and his teenage daughter asked to see Bob Dylan, twice. In his early twenties he was the singer and song writer of an “originals” band called Standish Proud and played at venues all over London. His love for fronting a band was not lost so a few years after moving to Charlotte he joined the classic rock covers band, Strange Brew NC. Songs from their gigs have been immortalized on YouTube.
Jon was dedicated to his family and friends and was the quintessential travel organizer. Prior to his diagnosis he organized family trips to Ireland, Yosemite, Sequoia National Forest, Death Valley and Las Vegas and then Italy for his 20th wedding anniversary. After, he focused on his bucket list items visiting 6 countries and numerous sites within the US within a year. One of the most important events he wanted to attend and did was the Cheltenham Festival (horse racing) in the UK with his brothers, wife, and friends in March 2020. Cheltenham holds a special place in his heart.
Although COVID stymied any additional traveling opportunities, Jon was able to spend quality time with his wife and children during his last months.
Surviving is his loving wife of 22 years Cynthia (Cindy) (nee Gross), his children Ella Charlotte and Alexander James, his mother Helen C. Boorman of Galleywood, Chelmsford, Essex and his brothers and sister-in-law, Mark S. and Anne E. Boorman of Halifax, West Yorkshire, and Richard G. Boorman of Sedgley, West Midlands all of the UK.
Jon requested that there be no service with his ashes final resting place at Cheltenham Racecourse. Timing for this will be determined by COVID travel restrictions.
Donations can be made in Jon’s name to the team that cared for him at the Levine Cancer Institute through the LCI Brain Tumor Fund c/o Carolinas Heathcare Foundation, P.O. Box 32861, Charlotte NC 28232.

I was blessed to share some of Jon's adventures while he walked this earth - more than my fair share of memorable stories.
Jon was a huge talent with a rock star's lust for life, who backed himself, yet had immense sensitivity and consideration for others and generosity. Right from the moment, I first met him at 11 years of age, he had originality and wisdom and an ability to hold an audience in the palm of his hand with his choice of words and delivery.
His last words to me were let's have a beer at Cheltenham ... with the level of his illness and the COVID situation, I didn't think for one minute he would be there while I was there at Gold Cup day 2020 ... I should've known Jon better! A huge regret.
I was and always will be a fan - when Jon practised his autograph during GCSE history lessons, I fully expected him to need to autograph for an adoring public ... the world missed out on a star, I was lucky to catch a lot of the show.
Cindy, Ella & and Alexander, I know how proud Jon is of you all. Continue to make him burst with pride as he looks down on the way you lead your life.
