

Retired Chief Master Sargent Joseph Gannon, 85, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully at Legacy Heights on Friday, October 19, 2012. Joe was born June 14, 1927 in Westbury, NY. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service on July 1, 1984 as the Westbury and Old Westbury Postmaster and from the Air National Guard on June 14, 1987 with 41 years of combined military service. He also served in WWII and during the Berlin Crisis in 1962. He was awarded numerous awards and decoration. Upon retirement, Joe became very involved with the Shriners and VFW.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marianne Gannon; daughter, Renee Gannon; daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Albert Guarnieri and his grandchildren, Marcus and Kendra Guarnieri.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 24 at 9:30 am at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 2:00 pm at Salisbury National Cemetery.
