Mr. Marion, age 83 died, February 19, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center. A visitation will begin at 2:00PM Tuesday at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home with a service to celebrate his life to follow at 3:00PM in the Funeral Home Chapel, Reverend Gene Craven officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Mr. Marion was born in Chicago Illinois son of the late Grace Hughes and Duke Marion. Gene was a combat veteran in the Navy during WWII, having been involved in the D-Day Invasion and served in Iwo Jima and other areas of the Pacific . He was a former member of New Life Presbyterian Church and a member of West Gate Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Duke (Buck) Marion. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Yandle Marion, son, John David Marion, brother, John Marion (Cathy) of Flowery Branch, Ga., brother-in-law, Bill Yandle (Sarah), sister-in-law, Nancy Elder (H. T.) and many nieces and nephews, and a very special great nephew, Chase Abernathy. Memorials may be made to Freedom Presbyterian Church, 1646 Toddville Rd., Charlotte, NC, 28214.
