Joseph Daniel Roberts

Born in Belmont, NC, he was a son of the late Bernard “BP” Roberts and Monnie Davis Roberts.

Joseph was a member of Mallard Creek Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and the church’s music director from 1999 – 2008. Additionally, he had served as music director at Trinity Baptist Church of Charlotte for 7 years; was veteran of the US Navy; was an avid gardener, he loved working with roses, and was the best story teller. He retired from McLean Trucking.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Hovis Roberts; his children, Kandice Roberts (Bill), Joel Roberts (Jackie), Carroll Roberts (Leeann), Clifton Roberts (Michelle) and Chris Roberts (Tracy); his siblings, Dorothy Adams, Cleo Boughman, Rachel Henley (Bill), Hoyt Roberts and Howard Roberts (Debbie); his grandchildren; Travis Gilstrap, Samantha Burke, Tommy Laircey, Lindsay McDowell, Beth Southern, Savannah Wolfe, Kacie Lega, Jake Aaron Roberts, Kres Roberts, Keri Roberts, Cesily Smith, Dalton Bryson, Amanda Elrod, Lee Roberts, Bryan Roberts and Trent Roberts; and his great-grandchildren, Devin Wall, Noah McDowell, Mason McDowell, Harrisyn Lega, Aubrey Lanier, DJ Sifford, Anslee Smith, Drake Smith, Jaxson Smith, Brinlee Smith, James Elrod, Emma Elrod, Jeffery Elrod, Samuel Lee Roberts, Addisyn Burke, Aiden Laircey and 3 great grandchildren soon to born; and a sister-in-law, Judy Roberts.

Preceding his death were a daughter, Teresa Gayle Roberts; and 2 brothers, Clyde Roberts and Worth Roberts.

Friends may visit from 6 to 8 pm Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 at McEwen Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC 28262.

Funeral services are planned for 3:00 pm Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017 at Mallard Creek Baptist Church, 3001 Morehead Road, Charlotte, NC 28262 with Rev. Tommy Bright and Rev. Morris Little officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
