Nita was born on March 31, 1931, in Charlotte, NC, to the late William and Maude Huff. She lived a long and full life marked by love, friendship, and devotion to family. She was married to her beloved husband, Douglas (Doug) A. Baisey for 34 years until his passing in 1996. She was a devoted wife and served as Doug’s primary caregiver during his years of declining health.
Nita and Doug were well known among friends for their shared love of square dancing. They spent many evenings dancing together and traveled throughout the Southeast to attend square dancing events, building lifelong friendships along the way.
She was also an avid bridge player, always ready for a good game with her friends. Her sharp mind, quick wit, and warm spirit made her a favorite at any card table.
Nita attended Charlotte Tech High School and went on to graduate from Pfeiffer College. She retired from Duke Energy after 34 years of dedicated service and was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed traveling with her retired Duke Energy friends, spending time at the beach, and being with her family — who were the joy of her life.
Nita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Doug, and her sister, Peggy H. Christman of Perrysburg, Ohio.
She is survived by her daughter Tina Downing (Parker) of Matthews, NC; three grandchildren, Nicole Hammond (Luke) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Matthew Downing (Jennifer) of Waxhaw, NC, and Brian Downing (Sarah) of Waxhaw, NC; and six great-grandchildren, Nolan, Reeves, Blakely, Eleanor, Kate, and Charlie.
She is also survived by two nieces, Joan Strausbaugh (Paul) of Clifton Forge, VA, and Nancy Oberdick of Perrysburg, Ohio; as well as a brother-in-law, Steve Baisey of White Lake, NC, and a sister-in-law, Allene Baisey of Mint Hill, NC.
Nita will be remembered for her kindness, humor, and the joy she brought to those around her. She will be missed very much.
A graveside service and burial will be held at Sharon Memorial Park on Tuesday, November 4 at 11 AM.
