Larry was born in Charlotte on October 18, 1932, to the late Otis and Edna Deaton. He was an Eagle Scout and after graduating from Harding High School in 1950, he went on to attend Charlotte College. Larry did many unique jobs throughout his life. He was a jack of all trades some might say. He was a Drivers Ed Teacher, Lifeguard, Dance Instructor, Mechanic, Real-Estate Broker, and eventually worked in the insurance business for 46 years.
During those years Larry met Emily through their friend Ellen and in 1959 were married and joined their families as one with their girls Debra, Cindy and Dege. During their marriage, Larry and Emily were blessed with three additional girls Gina, Larice, and Kisha.
When Larry retired as District General Manager, he began to truly enjoy his passions in life of fishing, hunting, collecting old guns, playing poker, watching westerns, listening to Johnny Cash,
Oak Ridge Boys and can’t forget his love of beach music. He loved to shag with his lovely wife down at the beach and relax with his dogs, especially Coco who once even saved Larry while he was working on his greatest passion of restoring antique cars with his last being his beautiful red 57 Chevy.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents Edna Fuquay Deaton and Lee Otis Deaton and his sister Donna Kay Quan.
He is survived by his wife Emily Page Funderburk Deaton; daughters Debra Morris, Cynthia Broadhead, Dege Harris, Gina Stone, Larice Riley, and Kisha Sain; Grand Children Devin Thompson, Deanna Corby, Lauren Riley, Logan Riley, McKalia Sain, Danielle Sain, James Thomas Sain III;
