Larry Elliott Widis passed away on January 1, 2018 following lung cancer surgery. He was born on June 23, 1947 to Phillip and Doris Widis in Columbia, SC. He is survived by his wife, Florence; daughters, Ashley (Chick) and Amy (Mike); his brothers, Howard (Helen) and Robert (Sharon); his grandchildren, Cooper, Nathan and Miles; and his nieces (Alex, Amanda) and nephew (Daniel).
Larry was a proud graduate of the University of Georgia and enjoyed his time in Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity. Larry was deeply committed to his family and the rich Jewish culture that we all shared. He enjoyed debating various topics during the Passover Seder and going to Shabbat services.
He loved all types of music – from beach to banjo – and even took up playing the banjo later in his life. He particularly loved talking to people from all walks of life and learning about their stories – becoming fast friends with them and making everyone feel special. He was a caring and protective father and husband and very proud of his grandchildren.
As a CPA throughout his career, he enjoyed the relationships he formed with his clients, particularly when he owned his own firm.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4 at Temple Israel. Following the service, burial will be held at the Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Ave.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Jewish Family Services via http://jfscharlotte.org/tribute-cards/ or 704-364-6594.
