Laura was born on May 28, 1954 in Morganton, North Carolina to Max and Elizabeth Harris. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and was a career registered nurse, a fitting profession given her love of helping others. Laura married Thomas Webster, her devoted husband, in 1977. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and playing tennis before health issues sidelined her.
Laura was a loving wife and mother but it was apparent to all who knew her that she truly blossomed when she became "Gigi" to her three adoring grandchildren. She reveled in spending time with them playing games, having tea parties, exploring in the woods and on the beach, and generally spoiling them. Gigi especially cherished the many trips she took with her grandchildren to Cherry Grove, Seabrook Island, Blowing Rock, Hutchinson Island, and Disney World.
She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Harris; her brothers Max Harris, Jr. (Karen) and Blair Harris (Julie); her sister, Bev Brown (Scott); her husband, Thomas; children, Emily Hyder (Adam) and Ryan (Meredith); grandchildren, Carson, Jennings, and Macon Hyder; her nieces, Elizabeth and Meredith Brown; and her nephews, Garrett, Grant and Russell Harris. She is preceded in death by her beloved father and her niece, Caroline Harris.
A celebration of Laura's life is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 10th at First Baptist Church of Matthews, 185 South Trade Street, Matthews, North Carolina 28105. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Laura loved all things pink so please wear pink!
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Duke Cancer Institute in memory of Laura Webster, 710 West Main Street Suite 200, Durham, North Carolina 27701.
