A native of the Winston Salem, NC area, he was the son of Willie Eugene Saylor and Effie Turner Saylor. He attended Auburn University and NC State University. He served in the Army Air Forces at the B17 and B29 training base in Pyote, Texas. He had a long career as a Professional Engineer in the fire protection industry.
Leonard was a member of First Baptist Simpsonville, SC and longtime member of Derita Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC where he taught Sunday school, served as a deacon, and other various positions. He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to people.
He is survived by his children, Steve (Susan) of Pelzer, SC, Charlie (Joy) of Roswell, GA, and Kay Bryant of Caswell Beach, NC; sister, Wanda (Harry) Palmer of Mebane, NC; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Leonard was also preceded in death by his brother Eugene, grandson Nathan and son-in-law Mike Bryant.
