

Born November 2, 1933 in Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Kimbrell was a daughter of the late Lester McDonald Black and Ivey Christenbury Black. Following graduation from North Mecklenburg High School, Mrs. Kimbrell furthered her education at Queens University and King’s Business College. Her career was spent as an underwriter with Hartford Insurance Company retiring after 37 ½ years of service.
Mrs. Kimbrell was a member of Northlake Assembly of God (formerly Evangel Temple) and is remembered as a consummate hostess, well-known by her family and friends for her love of entertaining and as a fantastic cook. She is also remembered for her love of shopping and fondness for animals, especially her cats. Mrs. Kimbrell was also noted for her willingness to help in any way she could whenever she saw a need.
Her family includes her husband, Bob Kimbrell; daughter, Kimberly Auten and husband Chris of Stanley; and her son, Kevin Kimbrell and wife Amy of Harrisburg; as well as four grandchildren, Kristina and Justin Auten and Kathryn and Karissa Kimbrell.
Also surviving are two sisters and a brother, Margaret Cunningham, Madeline Duckworth, and Dwight Black and his wife, Diane.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother, Alfred Black.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Kimbrell’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 17th at Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3413 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, where she and Bob were married in 1960. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Kimbrell’s name to Northlake Assembly of God, 2632 Sunset Rd., Charlotte, NC 28216.
