

Born December 27, 1933 in Saxmon, WV, Mrs. Sherman was a daughter of the late Jay and Gladys Seabolt Bennett. For several years she worked as a beautician in Richwood; however, the majority of her career she served as the Supervisor of the Hot Lunch Room for the Nicholas County Board of Education from which she retired. She was also a very dedicated homemaker in addition to her career.
Mrs. Sherman was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church on Fenwick Mountain, WV and later belonged to Little Laurel Baptist Church in Richwood. Since moving to Charlotte, she was a member of Shady Brook Baptist Church. Through the years she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She is especially remembered for her love of Gospel music.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Sherman is survived by her husband of 56 years, George “Buck” Sherman; and three children, Patra Collins (Mitch) of Charleston, WV, Denise Young (Greg) of Eleanor, WV, and Rev. George Sherman (Tracy) of Charlotte, NC; as well as eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Also surviving are her sister, Frankie Scott, her twin brother, Patrick Bennett, and brother, Louis Bennett, all of Fenwick Mountain, WV, and her sister, Delta Sue “Tootie” Kerns of Craigsville, WV.
A daughter, Dana Sherman, and a brother, Bob Bennett, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sherman’s family will receive friends beginning at noon Saturday, August 4th at Shady Brook Baptist Church, 2940 Belmeade Drive in Charlotte followed by a service to celebrate her life at 2:00 p.m.
A visitation will also be held from noon until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7th at Simons Coleman Funeral Home in Richwood, WV followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Mountainview Memorial Park.
