Joy came in the morning on Monday, November 17th, as our beloved Margaret was cradled into the arms of Jesus to be at home with her Lord. She passed quietly with many of her loving family by her side.
She was a wonderful Mother and homemaker, living in Raleigh before moving with family to Charlotte in 1968. She made her house a home by sharing the love of Jesus Christ with warmth and openness to family and neighborhood friends. She radiated Christ’s love to all who came into her presence; always quick to show by example her trust in Him as the one to bring you through the difficulties of life. Home became the place where her children’s friends loved to gather for food and fun, where beautiful memories were created and are cherished to this day.
Margaret was a lady of dignity, grace and beauty because of her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She deeply loved her children, family and longtime canine companion, Rose, whom she lost to death earlier in the year.
As a Mother and Grandmother she was discerning, a gifted listener and encourager. In her younger years she became an avid lover of dogs and horses, culminating in dog grooming, breeding and competitive showing of both. Even in her 70’s she worked several years for Moody’s Investors and a local post office. She was truly quite a remarkable lady and leaves behind a legacy of love, tenderness and faith in Jesus Christ.
Margaret Allen Kelly was born on January 15, 1922 to Josie Byrd and Carlton Allen. She is predeceased by her husband, William E. Kelly and former husband, Dr. Herbert Smith. She is survived by sons, Ted D. Smith (Joyce) of Charlotte and Vance “Skip” Isenhour of Danville, CA; daughters, Beverly S. Hayes of Asheville, Susan S. McCullen of Charlotte and Barbara Parker (Johnny) of Smithfield, VA. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
A service to honor and celebrate her life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, November 21st at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements by Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Condolences may be offered at www.wilsonfuneralservices.com.
