Peggy was a lovely woman who I had the good fortune to visit several times. She once said she thought of my Dad (her cousin) like a brother, and I know that trans-Atlantic bond was very important for that generation sending flimsy blue air-mails across the pond. As well as being family, Peggy was warm, charming and humorous, and she meant a lot to me and my family,

Peggy was the cousin of my father, Charles Raymond Stones. We met Peggy on several different occasions. We will always remember her as a very gracious and kind lady, both as a visitor, and a host. She enjoyed talking about family, and the family tree.We gained a lot of valuable information from her, and that will always be treasured. She is gone but will never be forgotten. I've just received the sad news from my mother, Jennie Edge. We visited Peggy from the UK around 20 years ago. It really was a privilege to have met her  and I remember being impressed by her strength of character and relaxed, open, loving nature.

I was so sorry to hear this news.  Like my parents, Doug & Jennie Edge, I remember with enormous fondness her visit to us here in England when I was young.  Most clearly, I remember her grace and humour; she will be sadly missed.

Aunt Peggy was a delightful woman.  She sent me a very touching letter that my father, John Morrissey, has written to Grandmother Crowe after my mother had died.  I have cherished the insight it provided me and always appreciated that Aunt Peggy took the time to send it.  Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

How sad I was to see in the paper on Wednesday that your Mom had passed away - I remember her vividly from the 1950's along with your Dad, Margaret Ellen, Betty and all the little children!  She always seemed like such a good mom and so devoted to all of you kids.  It's so difficult to lose our Mothers - no one except she thought we were quite so beautiful or so smart!

Margaret Ellen was my dear and fun friend through our years at Myers Park and over the last 55 years I've often wondered where she was - now I know, in Bel Air, MD.  Margaret Ellen, please let me hear from you; how I'd love to see you.  We just returned from our daughter's house in Palm Beach this afternoon or I would have been at the service today. At this time of year when we give thanks, the blessing of Auntie Peggy in my life is at the top of the list. She was there for me as a newborn and continued to be a source of support and humor my whole life.

Dear Family and Friends, 
Mother was feeling better and had a good dinner in the dining room Sunday night. She had gotten up twice in the late night/early morning with her aide and was communicating well. She went back to bed and went to sleep. She never regained consciousness. She was in a deep sleep when Betty arrived and was further along in a coma when David and I arrived. Father Reid of St. Ann's, performed last rights in the late afternoon and mother passed peacefully in the early evening.
Thank you to everyone for keeping Mom/Mimi/Peggy a part of our lives to the end. At the end she was always asking about who was watching the children. I told her we all were. Sometimes it was the grands, sometimes it was the great grands, sometimes I think she was thinking of her own young ones and her siblings babes in years past, in her more confused moments.
I never could get Mom oriented to the skilled nursing facility.  In that I failed completely. Michael and I took Mom up on the Blue Ridge Mountains in late October to see the fall beauty. The trip was fine but the leaves were subtle and in a way disappointing. Mother's vision had diminished some. 
But then came November, and 1000 feet closer to sea level. Each time I dutifully drove to Charlotte to help Mom orient to the Carriage Club, the sirens in the trees would call to me. (Mother made sure I was exposed to THE classics.) Charlotte's fall was spectacular this year, the best in ten years the news media said, and the season went on and on. Mother and I took numerous excursions, the last three specifically to wander old stomping grounds (full of trees), tripping down memory lane very well. We stopped at the very small and aromatic Dilworth Coffee Shop and drank coffee and talked among all the plugged in and near silent youngsters at their machines. They had kindly made way for Mom and her wheelchair and then gone back to the virtual world. We were amused. We walked and sat and rolled around the lake at Freedom Park. We drove down Tryon St. and saw old St. Pete's (and later St. Patty's) and the new Bechtler (?)Museum, Mint  Museum, School of Dance etc.etc. etc.... But the TREES were the thing... especially the maples, still full of leaves ricocheting  globes of yellow, orange and coral pink light changing to lavender at dusk. I am so glad I didn't listen to "common sense" in those last shared days with mom. We were orienting just fine! Love, Lynne
