Margaret Scott Smith

Ms. Smith was a resident of Aldersgate Community in Charlotte, NC. Born on March 19, 1924, she was raised in Aiken, SC, daughter to the late Reda Louise Cook Scott and Hiram Mackey Scott, amid her father’s cotton gin business. Ms. Smith was an avid swimmer and spent countless hours at “Scott’s Lake”, a community pool built and operated by her father. She was a graduate of Coker College in Hartsville, SC. After her marriage to pharmacist Grover L. Smith of Springfield, SC the family moved to Charlotte in 1956 and settled in the Cotswold community. She was a volunteer for over 20 years at Novant Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital. Her love of dance carried her through life and her outgoing personality led to friendships with everyone she met. Ms. Smith is preceded in death by her first husband, Grover Leroy “Roy” Smith, second husband, Charlie McCann; brothers, Dick “H.C.” Scott, Mackey Scott, Jr. “Josh” and sister, Kathleen “Kitty” Scott Killingsworth.

Ms. Smith is survived by her children, Beth Armstrong (Larry), Grover V. Smith (Chelsi); grandchildren, Scott Armstrong (Jennifer), Matthew Armstrong (Eve), Chloe Helms (Scott), Stephan Smith, Gabriel Smith (Kathryn), Larke “J.J.” Smith; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Mackey, Madelyn, Abby, James, Jake, Charlotte, Declan and Nicholas.
