Born on December 4, 1926, to Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Albertis Garmon (Eva Iwilla Foard), Margery was a graduate of Central High School (Charlotte) and an alumna of Queens College and Carolina Business College. As an ambitious young woman growing up in post-World War II Mecklenburg County, Margery proudly worked with the Allison Erwin Company. There she sold the latest technology of the day – the first televisions in Charlotte.
Mrs. Weaver was a charter member of Commonwealth United Methodist Church, in which she and Mr. Weaver raised their children. There she was active in the United Methodist Women, especially her circle.
A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mrs. Weaver painstakingly traced her family lineage all the way back to England and to family members who sailed to America in the late 1600s or early 1700s to first settle in Maryland before moving to Mecklenburg County, NC. She was honored to be a descendent of John Foard, one of 17 signers of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence in 1775. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Weaver actively served leadership roles in the DAR and the Sons of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Weaver was also active with the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union, serving as a vice president at the state level.
The Weavers enjoyed many years of travel with their family. Mrs. Weaver had a deep abiding faith, cherished her children and grandchildren, treasured her Cotswold neighbors, delighted in shopping (but not necessarily buying) and loved all things pink. If the streets of Heaven are made of gold, then they will be lined in pink roses for Margery’s Homecoming.
On October 23, 1954, Mrs. Weaver married the love of her life Oscar John Weaver. Together they raised three children: Dr. John Wayne Weaver (Catherine Carter) of High Point; Donna Lynn Weaver Sawyer (Richard W. Sawyer) of Clemmons, and Gary Thomas Weaver (Lori Anne Rider) of Charlotte. Carrying on their grandmother’s love of family are grandchildren: Andrew Wesley Weaver (Elizabeth Bills) of Atlanta, GA; Ashley Catherine Sawyer Menzel (Carl Menzel) of Richmond, VA; Chelsea Victoria Sawyer of Clemmons; and Shelby Elizabeth Weaver and Olivia Justine Weaver of Charlotte, as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her brother David Edward Garmon (Shirley Blackwell) of Surfside, SC, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and their spouses: Frances Weaver Hartsell, Barbara Anne Weaver Fields, Howard Ray Weaver, and Wayne Stubbs of Kannapolis; Horace Lee Weaver (Louise Roberts) of Concord, and Betty Harrington Weaver Hedrick of Concord.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by cousins whom she loved like sisters: Jackie Lemmond Broome, Mildred Lemmond Marks, Rhona Lemmond Trull, and Tommie Lemmond Rodgers.
Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, followed immediately by the funeral service at 3 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Services, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte. Interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park.
Memorials may be directed to Commonwealth United Methodist Church, 2434 Commonwealth Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205.
