

On Friday, October 17, heaven gained another angel! Marty is now reunited with her husband, Bruce; parents, Martha and Clyde Chernault; and sister, Betsy Steed. Marty was born on November 18, 1936 in High Point, N.C. where she grew up. She is survived by her nieces; Angie Kivett (Charlie), Cindy Hektner (Mark), and Mary Reesel brother-in-law, Jack Steed. She is also survived by seven great nieces and nephews with another one on the way. Marty graduated from High Point Central High School and Greensboro College. After graduation, she taught elementary school in Virginia Beach, High Point, and Charlotte for twenty years. After retirement, she and Bruce enjoyed traveling, playing golf (ha), and she enjoyed being able to be with her family and friends. She spent her last years at Aldersgate and loved all of the residents and staff. Marty was a member of the High Point and Charlotte Junior League. She also enjoyed her garden club where she made many loving friendships. Marty was a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church. She loved volunteering, especially activities involving children and the elderly. Marty loved everyone she came in contact with and enriched the lives of those she loved. A Memorial Service will be held at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, in the Francis Chapel on Thursday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Myers Park United Methodist Church or any charity that benefits children.
