She was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 9, 1943, the daughter of late Joseph L. and Helen M. Lane. Mary Jo attended Berkeley Secretarial School in White Plains, NY and shared her administrative talent with many organizations throughout the course of her life, most recently as a retired administrative professional with the Catholic Diocese of Charlotte including positions at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, the Marriage Tribunal, Catholic Charities, St. Ann Catholic School and also many years as the faith formation coordinator at her own parish, St. Vincent de Paul Church. Mary Jo was also proud to note she once worked in New York City for the J. Walter Thompson advertising agency.
Mary Jo and her husband, Dick, moved to Charlotte in 1970, continuing to grow their family. They became parishioners of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church shortly after moving to Charlotte and remained active members. She was a dedicated member of the St. Vincent’s choir for many years. Her passions included playing piano, taking pictures, crossword puzzles, tending to plants, and watching for deer that traveled through her yard. She loved to make people smile and laugh and could find a song to sing at any moment. She never met a stranger and could make anyone feel at ease and cared for, especially members of her own large family.
In addition to her parents, Mary Jo was predeceased by her husband of 51 years Richard A., daughter Margaret, sister Barbara, sister-in-law Nancy, sister-in-law Peggy, and brother-in-law Jack. She is survived by five of six children, Kathy (Joe), Kevin (Amanda), Jim (Hayley), Danny, and Kelly; grandchildren, Christopher (Nicole), Stephen (Bella), Brian, Laura, Davis, James, Mary Elizabeth, Sean, and Evelyn; great-grandchildren Illarion, Theodore, and Dean; and her siblings Ginny, Tom (Pam), Jim, and John (Patti).
