Mary Silvester Jones

Born to Logan W. Silvester and Mary Lockhart Silvester on March 14, 1925 in Portsmouth, VA, she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA. During WWII she worked at the Norfolk Naval Hospital where she met her husband, John P. Jones. She worked for Mercy Hospital, did volunteer work at the school health rooms, Red Cross and Friendship Trays. Mary was a member of Sardis Presbyterian Church where she served on several committees, kept church nursery, was a Circle Leader, Circle Coordinator and headed a shepherding group.

She is survived by her children, Paul M. Jones (Sally Greene), Thomas F. Jones (Billie Joe), Mary L. Jones, John N. Jones (Anne); and her grandchildren Nathan Jones, Ted Patterson, Ross Jones, Tucker Jones, Sarah Jones and Logan Patterson; and great grandson, William Jones.

She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, John Paul Jones; and her son, James Logan Jones.

She was a great mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her sweet spirit.

A service to celebrate Mrs. Jones’ life will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, January 27th at Plantation Estates. A graveside service will follow at Sardis Presbyterian Church at 3:00 pm. Mrs. Jones’ family will receive friends following the service at Plantation Estates and also at the church following the graveside service.
