

Mary was a long time office manager for various companies and the Lewis Company with her husband. Her faith was very strong in Jesus Christ, and loved her Gospel music. Her favorite passage was the 23rd Psalm. She was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary where she held various positions, and was a strong supporter of Veterans and the American Flag.
Mary loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved by all. She was called MaMa by her immediate family and her extended family which consisted of many friends, as well as associates in the American Legion and in business.
Mary loved to travel, especially to West Virginia, Alabama and her favorite, the beach. She loved playing games like Rummy and Aggravation. She was a life-long Chicago Cubs and Alabama Crimson Tide fan. She loved ice cream, saying more than once, “If I can’t have ice cream then I am ready to go on to glory”.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Red Lewis; brothers Rev. Morrison Brown, Charles P. Brown; sister Annie E. Brown. She is survived by two daughters Anne Gulock (Doug), Debbie Varner (Rick); sister Carolyn Smith (Charles); eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three nephews; three nieces.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte beginning at 11:30am. Service will follow at 1:00pm. Interment will take place at Sharon Memorial Park.
Mary’s family would like to thank all the people who helped care for her at University and Northeast Hospitals, Pruitt Town Center, and especially Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis who made her last hours on earth so peaceful. We will never forget the love and kindness you showed her and all of us.
