Mary Herlocker Surratt

Ms. Surratt, age 86, of Matthews, died Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. Born May 9, 1929 in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Grover Herlocker and Margaret Marie Hartsell Herlocker. Ms. Surratt worked as an x-ray technician at Rowan Memorial Hospital in Salisbury in the 1950's and '60's until 1967 when she and her family moved to Edenton. After living in Edenton, then Morehead City, she moved to Locust and worked in the billing department of Mecklenburg Radiology Associates until retirement. After retirement, Ms. Surratt moved to Matthews. She treasured her family and friends and loved spending time with them. She was a caring, selfless mother, grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed.

The service to celebrate the life of Mary Herlocker Surratt will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 17th in the chapel of Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.

Survivors include two children, Flynn Surratt of Edenton and Susan Surratt Smith and husband, Carey, of Matthews; four grandchildren, Daniel, Nathaniel, Logan and Lilly; and four step-children, Thomas M. (Tim) Surratt, Jr., Janice A. (Jan) Sandberg, Kay E. Stokes, and Douglas M. (Doug) Surratt. In addition to her parents, Ms. Surratt was preceded in death by a brother, Grover Dan Herlocker.
