Max was born in Winston-Salem, NC on January 20 1929. He was married to Doris Tate Freck for over 65 years. Max loved his Doris, and always knew her, even in the face of the travails of Parkinson’s. His countenance would light up when she entered the room on her visits to Elmcroft. Max has two sons, Stephen Freck of Garden Grove, CA, and Terry Freck of Weddington, NC. He is survived by Doris, Stephen, Terry, Terry’s wife Kay, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Max is also survived by brothers Randy Freck and wife Ellen of Marshall NC, Richard Freck of Thomasville, GA, David Freck and wife Janice of Fairview NC, and a sister Marlene Graham and husband Norman of Greensboro NC. Max’s older sister Betty Freck Sams preceded him in death in 2001.
Max was a veteran of the Army during the Korean War years. Max and Doris moved to Charlotte in 1963, and Max worked in the banking and savings and loan industry. Max was a member at Calvary Church on Pineville-Matthews Road, where he was an usher on Aisle 10 for many years until his health hindered his walking. He was a devoted Christian, husband, and father. His happy spirit and gentle nature had a great effect on everyone who knew him, and inspired his sons to be just like him.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 8 at 1:30 pm at Calvary Church followed by a Funeral Service at 2:30 pm. Burial will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens. The Family would like to express our most sincere thanks to all the staff at Elmcroft of Little Avenue, and to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care – Charlotte Region for the loving and detailed care of Max during his fight with Parkinson’s.
