Steve was born on February 11, 1948 in Charlotte, NC. He was the son of Harrell William Byrum and Gladys Lovelace Byrum. Prior to being ordained as a minister, Steve was the owner of Byrum Electronics and sold and installed security systems throughout the southeast. Steve served as pastor in the United Methodist Church of the Western North Carolina Conference. He served as a pastor for several churches over his seven years of ministry before being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
Steve is a Marine, serving his country for six years of active duty and was a Vietnam Veteran. Steve and his wife Katharine (Kathy) were married for 38 years and for most of those years lived in Concord, NC. They both enjoyed the beauty and nature of their wooded backyard and the wildlife that often visited during their day.
Steve was preceded in death by his loving parents (Harrell and Gladys Byrum) and his brother Gary Byrum. Steve is survived by his wife Katharine “Kathy” Byrum and his brothers Wayne Byrum (Debbie) and Jeffrey Byrum.
Steve served his Savior Jesus Christ with great humility and grace. He will be remembered by many as a caring and devoted Pastor and Servant of the Lord, a loving husband and gracious and dedicated brother and friend. While Parkinson’s was a battle given to Steve to fight, he kept a strong mind and holiness of spirit throughout his battle. His quick wit and snappy come-back lines were a gentle reminder of his spirited nature and the special love that he and Kathy shared until his final days. Steve will be greatly missed and continually loved on this side of eternity by those who knew him.
