

Michael (Mike) Frederick Cornick, age 72, of Charlotte, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on May 18th, 2012. Mike was born April 15, 1940 in Evansville, Indiana and grew up in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Belle Cornick.
Mike received his BS in Industrial Management from Purdue University, an MBA and PHD from UNC-Chapel Hill and was a CPA. Mike's passion was teaching; he was an accounting professor at UNC-Greensboro. It was in Greensboro where he met the love of his life, Charlotte. He continued his teaching career as an accounting professor at UNC-Charlotte, and most recently, Winthrop University, retiring in 2011.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Charlotte, and his adored daughters, Tiz and Ellie. While Mike's passion was teaching, his three girls were his first love. He loved well and he was well loved. He will be greatly missed by all, including his buddy, Ace the cat.
All who knew Mike were blessed by his kind and gentle nature, his warm smile, and his giving spirit.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. John Mahoney, his nurses, Lisa and Tracy, and the entire staff at Carolinas Hematology-Oncology Associates. Also, special thanks to Dr. Chris Teigland and his nurse, Vann. The family is grateful for hospice nurse, Kathy, and the wonderful hospice team for making it possible for Mike to be home.
A memorial service to celebrate Mike's life will be held at Myers Park United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 2:00 pm. His family will receive friends at the church immediately following the memorial service.
